This week I sat and watched one of my children have a blood test. I expected it to be mildly traumatic for them, but as we walked out of the doctor’s surgery I had to have a little chuckle as the phrase “Well… that was fun!” came out of their mouth!
In one of the popular songs that we sing in our praise and worship times at church, we sing the line “Your blood runs through my veins” – on the surface, a rather macabre and bizarre think to sing to the Lord!
Of course we haven’t had physical blood transfusions so what is the song getting at? It is talking about the spiritual reality that the blood of Jesus shed upon the cross has made a way for us to become part of God’s family… spiritually sharing in His bloodline!
So what would we find if we did a spiritual blood test on ourselves? Would we have any imperfections being carried around our body? Would we pick up on an intolerance or allergies to God’s word and Kingdom living? If so – the good news is that Christ’s blood is perfectly able to fully cleanse and heal us.
Let us take an opportunity today to thank Jesus for the blood He shed and to accept again the reality of the wholeness He gives to us.
“…we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus… with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.” (Heb 10:19-22)
