I had a scary moment on Tuesday when I went to my office to fetch a guitar for the prayer hour. As I came back out, I slipped at the top of the stairs, damaging the guitar, the banister and bruising my ribs as they bounced their way down the wooden steps!! (Don’t worry – I’m fine, and grateful it wasn’t much worse).

I had to accept that I could have avoided this moment by making a better shoe choice. My favourite boots recently broke so I was wearing a pair of shoes that look good and are waterproof but have soles that are totally worn down!

Our spiritual and emotional health can be like this… so worn down that it causes us to slip – often doing damage to ourselves and the world around us as we fall. Thankfully though, we have a God who is able to refresh and give life to even the most weary and worn down of souls.

We each need to look after our spiritual well-being in the knowledge that when we look to Him, God gives us all we need for a healthy… He is the restorer of our souls (or should that be heeler?)!

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake
(Psalm 23:1-3)..
