Yesterday morning I was lying still with ear plugs in for just over half an hour whilst my knee was being given an MRI scan. This fascinating process uses a strong magnetic field to somehow produce a series of cross section images of the inside of the body.
Somehow that which is naturally invisible to the eye can be seen clearly via the scanner and whatever is causing the physical pain or problem can be seen and the experts can decide what to do about it… whether surgery, physio or any other treatment is required.
I think we need to allow our spiritual lives to be subject to a scan every so often… allowing God, ourselves and other people to explore what is going on in our heart and soul. Perhaps then we can make good decisions about what to do to address any issues causing spiritual pain or problems.
The good news is that the cross can reach every section of our lives. If there are issues of sin, shame or forgiveness then Jesus’ blood is able to fully cleanse, heal and restore and make us whole.
Hopefully my knee will be back to full health and footballing action soon, but it is more important to make sure our hearts are healthy and whole.
“…to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” (Col 1:20)
