I’ve been thinking this week about what the most important thing is that we arrange about Christmas. I would like to suggest that the main thing is not what presents we give/receive, or what we have for dinner – I don’t think it is a what, but rather a who!
Next week, people travel across the world and spare rooms everywhere will be occupied as people take the opportunity to be with their loved ones. Our presence with one another is more important than our presents to one another.
For us as a Christian community and church family, there is one person whose presence is the greatest gift of all and this is the cause of our celebrations at this time of year… Emmanuel, God with us.
Jesus Christ did more than travel across the world; He left the glory of Heaven itself so that He could be born as one of us and be the very presence of God here on earth among us.
During this Christmas period, may we all know the reality of Emmanuel, God with us in your own life. Whether we are spending time alone or surrounded by family and friends, may His presence fill us with joy and peace.
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).”
