I recently purchased a new laptop and employed someone to transfer my profile and information onto it from my old one. Everything was transferred before we ran into a problem. Some corruption in the migration process, meant that the new computer would not accept my password.
The problem meant we had to start from scratch with the new computer and I had to accept that I would lose some information. It was frustrating at the time but on reflection maybe it was better to have a fresh start with the new machine. Although there are many things that I wanted to transfer over, there was probably also some things that it was better not to have.
I did not lose all my information as the expert was able to remove the old hard drive and turn it into an external hard drive from which I can access information – but not my old profile itself.
When we receive the new life that we are offered in Christ, we are given a totally new spiritual profile – free of any of the corruption of our old selves. We can still access information and make use of it, but we are given a completely new, fresh start.
One day in heaven we will have a new body – just like my fresh new computer – for now we can already live in our new identity in Christ.
”Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Cor 5:17)
