They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, well I realised last week just how fond I have become of connecting to the world through my mobile devices!
Whilst taking part in a recent conference at Ffald y Brenin, the lack of mobile network reception left me unable to keep in touch with my usual messages and information. I couldn’t even make necessary phone calls for most of the time I was there… until… someone told me about the ‘phone stone.’
There was one place on the whole site where my network could be accessed and it happened to be located where there was a slab of stone on the floor!
Sometimes I have felt like it is almost impossible to connect with God; to hear His voice or sense His presence. It has been at these times that I have had no option but to take the time to visit certain places and give specific time to doing nothing other than tuning in to connect with Him. This has led me to make sure I schedule such times into my diary.
Jesus set us the example of this in withdrawing to be alone to meet with the Father. We see this in the gospels several times during His ministry.
May we all find the time and space in our lives to make sure we regularly connect with God.
“Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” (Lk 5:16)
